This free online notepad is a clean place to jot down notes, drafts and lists. Everything you type is saved automatically in your browser, so it is still there next time you open the page. Count words and characters, change the text size and download your note as a .txt file. No account, no ads in the way, and nothing is uploaded.
Your note is stored only in this browser (local storage). It is not sent to or stored on our server, and it won’t appear on other devices.
Quick answer: Click in the box and type. Your note saves itself in this browser a moment after you stop typing, and the time of the last save appears below the box. Click Download .txt to keep a copy on your computer or phone.
How to use the online notepad
- Autosave: every change is saved to your browser’s local storage. Close the tab, restart your computer and come back: your note is still here, as long as you use the same browser and don’t clear its data.
- Word count: words, characters and lines update as you type. For detailed stats such as reading time and keyword density, paste your text into the word counter.
- Text size and font: use A- and A+ to change the size, and Monospace for code, tables or aligned lists.
- Download: saves a plain .txt file named after your first line.
- Find: press Ctrl+F (Cmd+F on a Mac) to search the note with your browser.
What is an online notepad good for?
- Quick notes during a call or meeting, without opening an app.
- Drafting a social post, email or message before pasting it.
- A scratch pad for copying text between apps, which also strips unwanted formatting.
- To-do lists and shopping lists on a shared or work computer where you can’t install software.

Privacy and limits
Your note never leaves your device. That also means it doesn’t sync: a note written on your laptop won’t appear on your phone. Private or incognito windows forget it when closed, and browsers usually allow a few megabytes of storage, which is plenty for text. For important writing, download a copy or use a synced notes app.

Can other people see my notes?
No. Notes are stored only in your browser. Anyone using the same browser profile on your computer could open the page and see them, though.
