This word frequency counter lists every word in your text from most used to least used, with a count and a percentage for each. Switch to two or three word phrases to find repeated expressions, and hide common words like “the” and “and” to see the words that really stand out.

Quick answer: Paste your text and the table shows each word with how many times it appears and its share of all words. Tick “Ignore common words” to hide filler like “the”, “is” and “and”.
How to use the word frequency counter
- Paste your text into the box. A short sample is loaded so you can see how it works.
- Choose single words, or two- and three-word phrases to find repeated expressions.
- Set a minimum word length and choose whether to ignore common words and numbers.
- Click Copy as CSV to paste the table into Excel or Google Sheets.
What word frequency tells you
- Writers and students spot words they lean on too often, such as “really”, “very” or a favourite adjective, and swap in alternatives.
- SEO and content teams check which topics a page actually covers and whether the main keyword appears naturally, without stuffing. A keyword that makes up more than 2 to 3 percent of all words usually reads as forced.
- Researchers and teachers compare the vocabulary of speeches, survey answers or essays.
- Language learners pull the most common words out of an article to study first.
How the counting works
Text is lowercased, so “Fox” and “fox” count as one word. Apostrophes and hyphens inside words are kept, so “don’t” and “well-known” stay whole. Letters from any language are supported, including accented letters, Cyrillic and Hindi. The percentage is each word’s count divided by all counted words, after common words are removed if that box is ticked.
For phrases, the tool slides a window of two or three words across the text and lists only phrases that appear at least twice.
