Remove Duplicate Lines: Delete Repeated Lines Online

Paste a list and this tool will remove duplicate lines instantly, keeping the first copy of each line in its original order. It works for email lists, keywords, URLs, names and spreadsheet columns, and can ignore differences in capital letters and extra spaces.

Quick answer: Paste your list on the left. The right box shows the same list with every repeated line removed, keeping the first copy in place. Copy it with one click.

How to remove duplicate lines

  1. Paste your list into the left box, one item per line. A small sample is loaded to show how it works.
  2. Leave Ignore capital letters ticked if “Apple” and “apple” should count as the same line.
  3. Leave Ignore extra spaces ticked to treat lines with leading, trailing or double spaces as duplicates.
  4. Pick an output and order, then click Copy result.

Three ways to dedupe a list

  • Keep first copy: the usual choice. Every line appears once, in the order it first appeared.
  • Only lines that appear once: drops every line that has a duplicate, including the first copy. Useful for finding items that are in one list but not another: paste both lists together and the unique lines are the differences.
  • Only the duplicated lines: lists each repeated line with how many times it appears, so you can see what was doubled up.

Removing duplicates in Excel, Google Sheets or the command line

In Excel, select the column and use Data > Remove Duplicates. In Google Sheets, use Data > Data cleanup > Remove duplicates or the formula =UNIQUE(A:A). On Mac or Linux, sort -u file.txt removes duplicates but also sorts the list; awk '!seen[$0]++' file.txt keeps the original order. This page is quicker when you just need to clean a pasted list.

Need more cleanup? The remove blank lines tool strips empty lines and HTML tags, alphabetical order sorts lists in many ways, and find and replace changes words across the whole list.

FAQ

Does it keep the original order?

Yes, unless you choose a sort. The first time a line appears is where it stays.

How big a list can I paste?

Lists of several hundred thousand lines work in a modern browser.

Is my list uploaded?

No. The tool runs in your browser, so email lists and other private data never leave your device.
