How to play the snake game
- Pick a speed and choose walls on (classic) or wrap-around, where the snake reappears on the opposite side.
- Press Start. The snake moves on its own; you only change its direction.
- Each apple adds 1 point and makes the snake one square longer.
- Avoid crashing into the edges (with walls on) and into your own tail. Your best score is saved in this browser.

- Follow the edges. Moving around the outside of the board keeps the middle free for turns.
- Plan your escape. Before grabbing an apple in a tight spot, make sure you can get out again.
- Zigzag when long. Sweeping back and forth in rows uses space efficiently and avoids trapping yourself.
- Don’t rush. Start on slow speed to learn, then move up as you get better.
A short history of snake
The idea dates back to the 1976 arcade game Blockade. Snake became world famous in 1997 when it came pre-installed on Nokia mobile phones, and millions of people played it on tiny monochrome screens. Today it is one of the most searched-for games online, and it is still a perfect quick game for a coffee break.
