Entrecard Changes Pricing Algorithm: Card Dropping Game Stops

Entrecard is a great concept that allows bloggers to drop their ‘business cards’ and place ads on other websites hosting Entrecard widgets, all aimed to create a social network of bloggers. But since the ad price was largely determined by how actively cards dropped, the system was getting gamed and reputed sites were dropping the widgets…. now a new pricing system promises a fair play.

Entrecard announced their new pricing algorithm - now your ad price is determined solely by demand for your ad spot. Every time someone purchases, or applies to purchase an ad on your site, your price doubles. Every time an ad finishes running, your price halves. It no longer has anything to do with drops, but is now based solely on how many other people want an ad on your site.

Well the new pricing system is in place and the ad pricing is rocking up and down, and they ensure things will settle down once the system stabilizes and takes into account the new demand for ad spots. Some blogs like in this image have rocketed to 16384 EC/day!

We used to place a Entrecard widget on QOT also, but the drop gaming ensured that the price of other blogs was beyond our reach, and I could not keep dropping hundreds of Entrecards everyday (unless you use Entrecard browsers like Sitehoppin and peas.in/ec). Nor could I generate enough credits to buy an ad on any reasonably trafficked site. Well now the Entrecard widget is back on our front page, and lets see how it performs. Entrecard is a great way to get free advertising on top sites and hopefully this pricing system will bring some fairness and saneness back.

Update: Within 5 minutes of activating the widget on our front page, the price has rocketed from 2EC to 32 EC and ads are lining up. Maybe we are selling cheap now!
