Tip Calculator: Work Out the Tip and Split the Bill
This tip calculator works out the tip and the total in a second, then splits the bill evenly between your group. Enter the bill amount, tap a tip percentage or type your own, and choose how many people are paying. You can round the total or each share up to a whole number.
Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to or stored on our server.
Quick answer: To calculate a tip, multiply the bill by the tip percentage. A 20% tip on $64.50 is 64.50 × 0.20 = $12.90, for a total of $77.40. Split between two people, that is $38.70 each.
How to use the tip calculator
- Enter the bill amount from your receipt.
- Tap a percentage or type your own in Tip %.
- Enter the number of people sharing the bill.
- Optional: round the total or each person’s share up to a whole number, which makes paying in cash easier.
- Optional: choose Amount before tax and enter the tax, if you prefer to tip on the pre-tax total as etiquette guides often suggest.

- 10%: move the decimal point one place left: $64.50 becomes $6.45.
- 20%: double the 10% figure: $12.90.
- 15%: 10% plus half of it: $6.45 + $3.23 = $9.68.
