Quick answer: Enter the date of birth in the first box. The exact age appears instantly as years, months and days. To find someone’s age on a past or future date, change Age on this date.

How to use the age calculator

  1. Type or pick the Date of birth. On phones, the date picker lets you choose the year first.
  2. Leave Age on this date as today, or change it to work out an age at a different time, such as on a school starting date or an exam deadline.
  3. Read the age, the totals and the countdown to the next birthday.

How age is calculated

Age is counted the way people normally say it. You become one year older on your birthday, and one month older on the same date each month. For example, someone born on 20 May 1990 is 36 years, 4 months and 23 days old on 13 October 2026. When the day of the month hasn’t come round yet, the calculator borrows the days from the previous month, so the result always matches a calendar count.

Leap years are handled automatically. If you were born on 29 February, your age goes up on 28 February in years without a leap day. Some countries use 1 March for legal purposes instead, so check local rules for official documents.

What the totals mean

  • Total months: complete months lived, useful for babies and toddlers, whose age is often given in months up to about 2 years.
  • Total weeks and days: the exact number of days since birth, a fun number for “10,000 days old” celebrations (that is about 27 years and 4 months).
  • Total hours: days times 24. It is approximate because it doesn’t know the time of birth.
  • Day of the week: the weekday of the birth date, such as “Born on a Saturday”.

Common reasons to calculate age

  • Checking age limits for school admission, sports categories, jobs, exams or retirement plans.
  • Filling in forms that ask for age in completed years.
  • Working out a baby’s age in weeks and months.
  • Planning a milestone birthday and seeing what day of the week it falls on.

How to calculate age in Excel

Put the date of birth in A1 and use =DATEDIF(A1,TODAY(),"Y") for full years. Add "YM" for the extra months and "MD" for the extra days. Google Sheets supports the same formula.

No. The age is calculated in your browser and nothing is sent to our server.

Can I calculate the age difference between two people?

Enter the older person’s birth date as the date of birth and the younger person’s as the “age on” date. The result is the gap between them.
