What Is My IP Address? See Your Public IPv4 and IPv6
What is my IP? Your public IP address is shown below, the address websites see when you visit them. The tool checks both IPv4 and IPv6, shows the country your connection appears to come from, and lists the browser details sites can read, such as screen size, language and time zone.

Your IP is looked up from your browser using Cloudflare and ipify. QuickOnlineTips does not see, log or store it.
Quick answer: The large number at the top is your public IP address. It belongs to your internet connection, not your device, so every phone and computer on the same Wi-Fi usually shows the same one. Click Copy IP to copy it.
What is my IP address used for?
An IP (Internet Protocol) address is the number that lets data find its way back to your connection, like a postal address for the internet. Your internet provider assigns it. Websites, games and email servers see it every time you connect. You might need to know it to:
- Allow your connection through a firewall, hosting panel or database whitelist.
- Set up remote desktop, a home server, a game server or a security camera.
- Check that a VPN is working: with the VPN on, the IP and country should change.
- Give it to a support team that is troubleshooting your connection.
Public vs private IP address
This page shows your public IP, the one the internet sees. Inside your home or office, your router gives each device a private IP, usually starting with 192.168, 10. or 172.16 to 172.31. Websites can’t see private addresses. To find a device’s private IP, look in its Wi-Fi settings: on Windows run ipconfig in Command Prompt; on a Mac open System Settings, Network.
IPv4 vs IPv6
IPv4 addresses look like 203.0.113.42: four numbers from 0 to 255. There are only about 4.3 billion of them, so providers share them between customers. IPv6 addresses are much longer, such as 2001:db8::1, and there are enough for every device. Many connections now have both. If the IPv6 box says “Not available”, your provider or network doesn’t offer IPv6 yet, which is normal and doesn’t slow you down.
How accurate is the IP location?
IP location is a best guess based on where the provider registered the address block. The country is usually right; the city often isn’t, and mobile networks may place you in another region. A VPN or iCloud Private Relay shows the location of its server instead of yours.
Can I hide or change my IP address?
Restarting your router may give you a new IP if your provider uses dynamic addresses. To hide it from websites, use a VPN, the Tor Browser or your browser’s built-in privacy relay. Read our guide on how to protect your IP address for the options.
FAQ
Why is my IP different on my phone?
On mobile data your phone uses the carrier’s network, which has its own IP. On the same Wi-Fi it matches your computer.
Does my IP address change?
Most home connections get a dynamic IP that changes now and then. Businesses can pay for a static IP that stays the same.
Can someone find my home address from my IP?
No. An IP shows your provider and a rough area. Only the provider knows which customer used it, and it shares that only with legal process.
How do I check a website’s IP address?
Use our DNS lookup tool and look at the A and AAAA records.
