Barcode Generator: Code 128, EAN-13, UPC and More
This free barcode generator makes printable barcodes in the most common formats: Code 128 for labels and shipping, EAN-13 and UPC-A for retail products, Code 39, ITF-14 for cartons and Codabar for libraries. Check digits are worked out for you, and you can download each barcode as a PNG or a sharp SVG.
Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to or stored on our server.
Quick answer: Pick a barcode type, type the number or text, and the barcode appears. Use Code 128 for your own labels and stock codes; use EAN-13 or UPC-A only with product numbers assigned to your company by GS1.
How to use the barcode generator
- Choose the barcode type. An example value is filled in for each one.
- Enter your value. For EAN-13 and UPC-A you can leave off the last digit and the check digit is added for you.
- Adjust bar width, height and color, and choose whether to show the number under the bars.
- Download a PNG for documents and labels, or an SVG for professional printing.

Selling in shops? Get official numbers
Anyone can draw an EAN-13 or UPC barcode, but the number inside must be unique worldwide. Retailers and marketplaces such as Amazon expect product numbers (GTINs) licensed from GS1, the organisation that runs the system in each country. Once you have your GS1 numbers, you can create the barcode images here for free.
Printing tips
- Print black bars on a white background. Red bars and dark backgrounds often cannot be read by scanners.
- Keep the clear space on both sides of the bars.
- Do not stretch the image unevenly; resize the SVG to keep bars sharp.
- Test a printed sample with a scanner or phone app before printing in bulk.
