How to Moderate WordPress Comments from Your Phone or Desktop
How often do you open your dashboard just to check for new comments? In 2009 a free Adobe AIR app called Moderator let you moderate WordPress comments from a desktop window, without opening the browser. Adobe AIR and that app are long gone, but you can still approve, reply to and spam comments without sitting in wp-admin all day. Here are the best ways to moderate WordPress comments from your phone or desktop in 2026.

Quick answer: Install the Jetpack mobile app (it works with self-hosted sites connected to Jetpack) to get comment notifications and approve, reply or spam them from your phone. On a computer, install your wp-admin Comments page as a browser app for a desktop-style window, and turn on WordPress’s moderation emails, which include approve, trash and spam links. Let Akismet filter spam first so you only see real comments.

Moderate WordPress comments from your phone
The Jetpack app for iOS and Android shows new comments as notifications. Tap one to approve, reply, like, trash or mark it as spam. Self-hosted sites need the Jetpack plugin connected to a WordPress.com account; WordPress.com sites work out of the box.
No app? The wp-admin Comments screen works fine in a mobile browser. Bookmark /wp-admin/edit-comments.php?comment_status=moderated to jump straight to comments waiting for approval.
Moderate comments from your desktop
Install the Comments page as an app
In Chrome or Edge, open your Comments page in wp-admin, then use the browser menu’s “Install page as app” option (in Chrome, under Cast, save and share). It opens in its own window with its own taskbar or Dock icon, much like the old desktop client.
Use keyboard shortcuts
WordPress has built-in shortcuts to approve, spam and trash comments without the mouse. See how to moderate WordPress comments quickly with keyboard shortcuts.
Moderate from your inbox
Under Settings > Discussion, tick “Email me whenever a comment is held for moderation”. Each email includes links to approve, trash or spam the comment, so you can handle most comments with one click.
Cut the moderation queue first
- Use Akismet or another anti-spam plugin; see our pick of the best plugins to stop comment spam.
- Hold comments with links for moderation, and remove links from comments if spam keeps coming.
- Close comments on old posts automatically to reduce spam targets.
FAQ
Is there a desktop app for WordPress comments?
Not a dedicated one any more. Installing the wp-admin Comments page as a browser app gives you the same separate-window experience.
Can I moderate comments without Jetpack?
Yes, through the mobile browser or the moderation emails. The Jetpack app adds push notifications and a cleaner interface.
How do I get notified of new comments?
Turn on comment emails under Settings > Discussion, or use the Jetpack app’s notifications.

Hello,
A question about this system. If you already have the “recent comments” widget on your WordPress blog, then you can easily tell when comments have been posted and moderate (remove) any that are inappropriate from your WordPress control panel. Since you say that the system works best when you don’t receive alot of comments, and the WordPress control panel is quite easy to use, are there really any efficiencies gained here (in other words, using the WordPress control panel for a small to medium number of comments is a very easy task to begin with)?
Thanks, Stu Engelman
This is a wonderful tool! Definitely a convenience factor when run on my mac with automator…it just pops up all the unmoderated comments when I turn on my laptop.
An “approve all” function will definitely make this a “must have” add-on for wordpress admins/developers.
This is old one that I have used for a year now. It is useful one. Thanks for the post anyway
If this works it will be fabulous! I’m going to try it now.
Whoever needs such a desktop client would be the ones that get lots of comments. And the app cant handle a large number of comments..? Thats ironic.
If you get little comments, then approving them via the dashboard is no big job.
The concept is cool, but the real users will have to wait till a new version that can handle bulks of comments is available.
Also, I would love to see a reply to comments option in the app. That would be the real life saver :)
I liked the simplicity of the writeup!
@Arun : I agree that Updating comments from Dashboard is Simple But if you want a Desktop Notification Then This App takes care of that. and I am glad that You liked the article :)
