Flickr Free Storage: What Happened to the 1TB Offer (2026)
In May 2013 Flickr gave every free member a whopping 1 TB of storage for full-resolution photos. It was huge news, and we covered it the day it launched. Five years later the offer was gone: today Flickr free storage is limited to 1,000 photos and videos. Here’s what changed, what you get free and paid in 2026, and the best alternatives for storing photos.

Quick answer: Flickr no longer gives 1 TB free. After SmugMug bought Flickr in 2018, free accounts were limited to 1,000 photos and videos, and older items above the limit were deleted in 2019. Flickr Pro (paid) adds unlimited full-resolution uploads, no ads and stats. For free bulk photo storage, Google Photos (15 GB shared Google storage), Amazon Photos (unlimited photos for Prime members) and OneDrive or iCloud free tiers are common alternatives.

The 2013 Flickr 1 TB offer
The redesigned Flickr gave all free accounts 1 TB of space, enough for hundreds of thousands of photos, with full-resolution uploads and fewer limits. Yahoo, Flickr’s owner then, added paid plans to remove ads or double the space. We had followed Flickr since its early days, from great Flickr tools to free Flickr Pro upgrades, and the new Flickr looked set to win back users.
