Free Essential Blogger Tools for Your Blog (2026)

Blogger is still a free, simple way to run a blog, and a few extra tools make it far more powerful. Our first list of free Blogger tools in 2005 included hit counters, Blogexplosion traffic swaps, Pingomatic and early AdSense. Most of those are gone or unnecessary now. Here are the free tools every Blogger blog should use in 2026.

Free essential Blogger tools

Quick answer: The essential free Blogger tools are Google Search Console (get indexed and see search traffic), Google Analytics (visitor stats), a custom domain (looks professional and portable), AdSense (built into Blogger’s Earnings tab), an email subscription service like follow.it or MailerLite (FeedBurner email ended in 2021), Canva for images, and Creative Commons licences for your content.

Traffic and search

  • Google Search Console: verify your blog, submit your sitemap (yourblog.blogspot.com/sitemap.xml) and see which searches bring visitors.
  • Google Analytics: add your GA4 measurement ID in Blogger Settings to track visitors.
  • Custom domain: connect your own domain in Settings > Publishing; see our post on custom domains for Blogger.

Earning

  • AdSense: Blogger’s Earnings tab connects your blog to AdSense directly.
  • Affiliate links: add product links with proper disclosure.

Readers and subscribers

  • Email subscriptions: FeedBurner email and Blogger’s FollowByEmail widget stopped in 2021. Use follow.it or a newsletter tool like MailerLite or Mailchimp with an embed form.
  • Feeds: your blog’s feed (/feeds/posts/default) still works for RSS readers.
  • Social sharing: Blogger themes include share buttons; turn them on in Layout.

Design and content

  • Canva for featured images and graphics.
  • Blogger’s built-in themes (Contempo, Soho, Emporio, Notable) are mobile-friendly; customise them in Theme.
  • Creative Commons licences to tell others how they may reuse your posts.

Blogger tips

  • Know Blogger’s limits on pages, labels and page size.
  • Hide the Blogger navbar on older themes for a cleaner look.
  • Back up your blog regularly from Settings > Manage blog.
  • Write labels consistently so readers can browse topics.

What happened to the 2005 tools

Traffic exchanges like Blogexplosion are gone and never brought real readers. Manual pinging with Pingomatic isn’t needed: Blogger and search engines discover new posts through sitemaps. Third-party hit counters were replaced by Google Analytics and Blogger’s built-in Stats.

  1. blogger deleted my blogs accusing me of spamming, without even asking me, or giving me a chance to prove I’m a normal “human” blog writer, who spent years writing all those hundreds of posts. At least, they could have given me a chance to save my posts somewhere else for myself. I have no trust in blogger anymore!

  2. Lovable post with the great collection of free essential tools for blogger. Feedburner & Technorati tools services were looks great. I really love it & inspired of it.

Thx for sharing such a wonderful listing. Keep on sharing good things like this always.

  3. I searched for a poll tool for blogspot and found this posting some useful tips – great.

Anybody knows a tool for making polls or letting users vote for something on a blogger account – something like a poll-voting tool for wordpress as WP-Poll or Democracy plugin would be great – found nothing yet.

    Ok thanks

  4. Quiet interesting post. Definitely worth trying, especially the trackback or maybe some other.

Probably the BEST OF ALL THE TECHNIQUES is to write quality content that takes TIME, ENERGY and above all A LOT OF PATIENCE.
