How to Find the Best Amazon Reviews (and Spot Fake Ones) in 2026

How do you find the best Amazon reviews, the honest ones that tell you whether a product is really worth your money? Popular products have thousands of ratings, and some are paid, copied or written by bots. When we wrote this guide in 2012, Amazon’s reviewer badges such as Real Name and Top Reviewer made it easy to spot trusted reviewers. Most of those badges have since gone, so here’s how to find trustworthy Amazon reviews in 2026.

Best Amazon reviews and top reviewers

Quick answer: To find the best Amazon reviews, filter for Verified Purchase reviews, sort by Top reviews, read the detailed 3-star and 2-star reviews first, and look for photos or videos from real buyers. Treat “Vine Customer Review of Free Product” as useful but not neutral, and be wary of sudden bursts of short 5-star reviews posted on the same days.

How to find the best Amazon reviews in 2026

1. Filter for Verified Purchase reviews

A Verified Purchase label means Amazon confirmed the reviewer bought the item on Amazon at a normal price. These reviewers actually used the product, so their comments on quality, size and durability are more reliable. On the product page, open all reviews and choose Verified purchase only in the filter.

2. Read the middle ratings first

5-star reviews are often short and excited, and 1-star reviews are sometimes about delivery problems. The 3-star and 2-star reviews usually explain real pros and cons in detail. Read several of them before you decide.

3. Look for photos and videos

Reviews with customer images and videos are much harder to fake. Use the Reviews with images section to see what the product really looks like, its true size and finish.

4. Check “Customers say” carefully

Amazon now shows an AI-generated Customers say summary above the reviews, highlighting common praise and complaints. It’s a useful overview, but click the topic chips (such as “battery life” or “fit”) to read the actual reviews behind them.

5. Understand Amazon Vine reviews

Amazon Vine is an invite-only programme where trusted reviewers get free products in return for honest reviews. Their reviews are labelled Vine Customer Review of Free Product. They are often detailed and early, but remember the reviewer didn’t pay, so balance them with Verified Purchase reviews.

6. Check the reviewer’s profile

Click a reviewer’s name. A profile with years of varied, balanced reviews is more trustworthy than one that only posts 5-star reviews for unknown brands.

Signs of fake Amazon reviews

  • Many 5-star reviews posted within a few days, especially soon after launch.
  • Vague praise such as “great product, highly recommend” with no details.
  • Reviews that mention a different product, a free gift or a request to contact the seller.
  • Reviews for a product variant (colour, model) very different from the one you’re buying.
  • A rating distribution with almost only 5-star and 1-star reviews.

What happened to Amazon’s reviewer badges?

Our original guide recommended five badges. Here’s where they stand:

  • Top Reviewer rankings and Hall of Fame: Amazon removed the public rankings page, and from October 2024 new reviews no longer show the “TOP” reviewer badge.
  • Real Name badge: retired years ago.
  • Verified Purchase: still the most useful trust signal.
  • Vine Voice: still active, now labelled on each Vine review.

Are fake review checkers still available?

Mozilla shut down Fakespot in July 2025, so many older guides recommend a tool that no longer exists. Some browser extensions and websites still analyse Amazon reviews, but none are perfect. Your own checks above, plus the return policy and seller rating, are the best protection.

Frequently asked questions

Are Amazon reviews reliable?

Most Verified Purchase reviews are genuine, but fake reviews still exist. Reading a mix of detailed reviews gives you a reliable picture.

What does “Vine Customer Review of Free Product” mean?

The reviewer is part of Amazon Vine and received the product free to review it honestly.

Can sellers pay for Amazon reviews?

No. Amazon bans paid or incentivised reviews and removes them, and regulators in many countries now fine companies for fake reviews.

How do I sort Amazon reviews?

Open “See more reviews”, then sort by Top reviews or Most recent and filter by star rating, Verified Purchase or media.
