How to Print All Microsoft Word Shortcuts (Complete List in 1 Minute)

Want a printable list of every Microsoft Word shortcut? Keyboard shortcuts make writing and editing much faster, and Word has hundreds of them. Instead of searching help pages, you can make Word generate a complete list of its own Microsoft Word shortcuts in seconds, including any custom shortcuts you have added. I first shared this trick for Word 2003, and it still works in Word for Microsoft 365 in 2026.

Print all Microsoft Word shortcuts

Quick answer: In Word, press Alt + F8, change “Macros in” to Word commands, select ListCommands and click Run. Choose Current menu and keyboard settings and click OK. Word creates a new document with a table of every command and its shortcut, which you can print or save as PDF.

How to print all Microsoft Word shortcuts

  1. Open Word and create a blank document.
  2. Press Alt + F8 (or go to View > Macros > View Macros).
  3. In the Macros in drop-down, choose Word commands.
  4. Scroll down the list and select ListCommands, then click Run.
  5. Choose Current menu and keyboard settings for your active shortcuts (or All Word commands for every command, even those without shortcuts) and click OK.
  6. Word opens a new document with a table of commands, modifiers and keys. Sort it, delete rows you do not need, then press Ctrl + P to print or save as PDF.

The list runs to several pages. In 2005 mine was 9 pages long; in current versions it is longer.

Most useful Word shortcuts to learn first

  • Ctrl + N / O / S: new, open and save a document.
  • Ctrl + Z / Y: undo and redo.
  • Ctrl + B / I / U: bold, italic, underline.
  • Ctrl + Shift + V: paste as plain text (keep text only).
  • Ctrl + F / H: find, and find and replace.
  • Ctrl + K: insert a hyperlink.
  • Ctrl + Enter: insert a page break.
  • Ctrl + Alt + 1 / 2 / 3: apply Heading 1, 2 or 3 styles.
  • Ctrl + Shift + C / V: copy and paste formatting.
  • Shift + F3: change case (lowercase, UPPERCASE, Title Case).
  • F7: spelling and grammar check.
  • Alt + Shift + D / T: insert today’s date or the current time.
  • Alt + drag: select a vertical block of text. See how to select vertical text in Word.

Discover shortcuts on the ribbon

Press Alt on its own and Word shows small letters (KeyTips) over every ribbon tab and button. Press the letters in order to reach any command without the mouse. You can also hover over a button to see its shortcut in the tooltip.

Create your own Word shortcuts

Go to File > Options > Customize Ribbon and click Customize next to Keyboard shortcuts. Choose a command, press the keys you want, and click Assign. Your custom shortcuts then appear when you run ListCommands.

Word on Mac and the web

  • Mac: most shortcuts use Command instead of Ctrl. Tools > Customize Keyboard shows and changes them.
  • Word for the web: search Help for “keyboard shortcuts” to see the list for the browser version.

Protect finished documents too: here is how to password protect a Word document.

Bonus shortcut: select any text and press Shift+F3 to switch it between lowercase, UPPERCASE and Capitalize Each Word. For Title Case, Sentence case and more styles, paste the text into our free case converter.
