Microsoft has released the Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC), which is now available for download to MSDN and TechNet subscribers. Now Windows 7 is in final phase of development and getting ready for partners to develop new applications, device drivers and services.
Some of the cool new features to look out for are
1. Remote Media Streaming. Remote Internet access to home-based digital media libraries from another Windows 7-based PC outside the home.
2. Windows XP Mode. Utilizing Windows Virtual PC, allows Windows 7 users to run many Windows XP productivity applications, launched right from the Windows 7 desktop.
3. Windows Touch. Controlling the computer by touching a touch-enabled screen or monitor is a core Windows 7 user experience.

So what are the minimum system requirements for Windows 7?
– 1GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
– 1 GB of RAM (32-bit) / 2 GB of RAM (64-bit)
– 16 GB of available disk space (32-bit) / 20 GB (64-bit)
– DirectX 9 graphics device with Windows Display Driver Model 1.0 or higher driver
In case you are not TechNet or MSDN subscribers, but still interested in previewing Windows 7, the Windows 7 RC will be publicly available May 5 on the Microsoft Windows 7 site.
Note: Windows 7 Beta was available earlier for a limited time earlier till January 24, 2009. The Windows 7 Beta software will expire on August 1, 2009.

linux still rules, even for their free windows 7 RC your still required to have live id….. which part of free do they not understand, why all the hastle.. ive been using linux for quite some time and when they say free… they mean free as in no hastles period. and have you seen their license prices for the full versions.. holly hell… plus its not all…you’ll have to worry about security threats and viruses.. sheesssshhh

…unless, of course, you just like to surf and check your Email…in which case you may be able to get away with a Web TV unit. (if they still exist!)

What the hell are you talking about man! The Beta was VERY well done, solid, and VERY reliable!! The RC kicks ass (I downloaded mine April 30 from Technet :) ) for sure but the Beta was nothing to laugh at. ;)

By and by, Windows’ system requirements are getting bigger and bigger. Wondering what they have to offer for old machines…
Yeah, like me, I’m just a poor working student. Searching for old pc parts just to repair my unit. Not all people can afford it. How can windows7 run on my pc?
If you’re looking for a system with the minium hardware requirements, I recommend using any systems that’s been on the market within the past 3 years (2007-2010). If you’re running with an AMD Athlon or Sempron processors, socket 754 or AM2 with a mimium of 2GB of RAM (DDR400 or greater, DDR2 533 or higher) is recommended, at least 160GB HDD. Type video graphics card AGP 8X 256 OR 512MB or PCI-Express socket types. Most motherboards has the video built-in. But the board will have a PCI-E or AGP slot for you to purchase a higher excelerated graphics card. If you’re using your own audio card (i.e. SoundBlaster Live, Audigy) it will require downloading the updated drivers for Windows 7.
Other than the above, you’ll love the features of Windows 7 over XP & Vista. And yes, the system will run & bootup faster.
